Television presenter Davina McCall has moved fans with an emotional update, revealing she has completed a significant stage of her cancer treatment.
An Emotional Day and a Health Milestone
The 58-year-old Masked Singer UK detective took to Instagram to share her feelings after what she described as a highly charged day. In a video posted on January 9, McCall was seen fighting back tears as she disclosed that she had just finished her course of radiotherapy.
"It was very, very emotional," she confessed. "Much more emotional than I thought it would be. So I need a bit of positivity and brilliance."
Reframing 'National Quitters Day'
Her message was also timed to coincide with the date statistically known as 'National Quitters Day', when people are most likely to abandon their New Year's resolutions. McCall challenged this notion, stating there was "nothing happy about that".
"We shouldn't be celebrating that," she remarked. "We should have a happy 'congratulations on still going for it when everyone else is giving up day'. That's what we should say." She described the post-Christmas period as a difficult time, with the festive buzz having "subsided" leaving "just a grey, stormy day".
In her caption, she reinforced this positive reframe, writing: "Today is #nationalquittersday... how depressing? Let's reframe this!!!" She also reassured followers about her health, adding: "I'm good, don't worry about me x it's been an emotional day, but I'm relieved, grateful, happy and hopeful."
A Journey of Treatment and Advocacy
McCall's health announcement marks a key step in her journey since being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer last November. She previously underwent surgery to remove a small lump and had planned five days of preventative radiotherapy in January as an "insurance policy" to reduce the risk of recurrence.
The presenter discovered the lump through a self-examination, inspired by fellow broadcaster Lorraine Kelly's awareness campaign. She has been openly discussing her experience to encourage others to perform regular checks.
This follows her previous treatment for a benign brain tumour towards the end of 2024.
Fans quickly flooded her post with messages of love and support. One wrote: "Sending so much love Davina. Let's Begin Again - all together x," while another said: "Aww Davina, what a hard year you've had, sending you so much love and healing vibes."
During her update, McCall also promoted her podcast, 'Begin Again', which she calls the "reset podcast". The Masked Singer UK, where she appears as a celebrity detective alongside Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and Maya Jama, is available to stream on ITVX.
