Actor Tyler Mane, best known for playing Sabretooth in the 2000 film X-Men, has announced he has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 59-year-old former professional wrestler shared the news on Instagram, describing his case as a 'super rare' form of the disease.
Mane, who also played Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes, revealed that he initially wanted to keep his diagnosis secret. However, his wife Renae Geerlings encouraged him to seek treatment after doctors initially dismissed his symptoms. 'It was only because my wife pushed me to get the lump removed that I got in early,' he wrote.
Male breast cancer is uncommon, with about one in 755 men diagnosed in their lifetime. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately one in 100 breast cancer diagnoses in the United States occurs in men. The most common symptom is a lump in the breast tissue near the nipple.
Mane has started chemotherapy and shared a video of himself in hospital, raising his middle finger and mouthing 'f*** cancer'. In a subsequent update after his second day of treatment, he appeared emotional but defiant, saying: 'I'm gonna kick cancer's ass.' He urged followers to spread awareness, noting that men are often diagnosed at advanced stages because the disease is not discussed.
