BBC's Morning Live paid a heartfelt tribute to Kym Marsh's father Dave, who died from prostate cancer. Presenter Gethin Jones said: 'For as long as Kym Marsh has been part of the Morning Live team we’ve known her dad Dave. He often came down to the studio when Kym was filming and in 2021 he made the decision to share his story with us after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.'
Co-presenter Helen Skelton added: 'He made regular conscious decisions to improve people's lives whenever he met them - not just with this. But he is having a massive legacy with this. After over two years of raising awareness of the disease Dave sadly died on Friday surrounded by Kym and his family.'
The show aired a short film featuring Dave discussing his cancer journey, with Jones narrating: 'Sometimes in life you meet people who are true gems - warm funny and caring and willing to give up their time to help others to make a difference. Dave Marsh was that person and so much more.'
On social media, Morning Live posted a shorter version of the film, writing: 'We want to share his story and keep his legacy alive, and encourage men with symptoms to get checked.' The charity Prostate UK thanked the show for featuring their director, noting that 'this disease is curable if caught early'.
Kym and her family issued a statement confirming Dave's death: 'It is with immense sadness that we confirm the passing of David Marsh. A much loved husband, dad, grandad, great grandad and friend to many, David passed away peacefully at home yesterday surrounded by his family.'
