Colleen Hoover Reveals Cancer Diagnosis Midst of Hollywood Adaptations
Author Colleen Hoover Shares Cancer Diagnosis

Colleen Hoover, the globally celebrated author behind the phenomenon It Ends With Us, has shared a personal health update with her millions of fans, revealing she has been undergoing treatment for cancer.

A Personal Announcement on Social Media

The 46-year-old writer informed her followers via Instagram on Tuesday 13 January 2026. She posted a selfie wearing a hospital gown, captioning it: “Second to last day of radiation! I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they’ve been great. Hope you never need them but highly recommend.”

Hoover did not disclose specific details about her diagnosis. This news comes only months after she missed promotional events for the film adaptation of her 2019 novel, Regretting You, citing an “unavoidable surgery” at the time.

From BookTok to Box Office Success

Colleen Hoover's rise to literary superstardom has been significantly fuelled by the avid reading community on TikTok. Her emotionally charged novels have resonated with a massive audience, leading to over 50 million books sold worldwide. Her breakthrough 2016 novel, It Ends With Us, which tells the story of florist Lily Bloom's abusive relationship with a neurosurgeon, accounts for more than 10 million of those sales.

The book's success seamlessly transitioned to the big screen. The 2024 Hollywood adaptation, starring Blake Lively and directed by Justin Baldoni, was a commercial hit, grossing $351 million (£260m) globally. However, the project was marred by off-screen controversy, with Lively and Baldoni later filing lawsuits against each other alleging workplace misconduct and defamation, which both parties denied.

Hoover, who served as an executive producer, expressed disappointment over the “ugliness” of the legal drama surrounding her film.

Continuing Screen Legacy Amid Personal Challenge

Despite the personal health challenge, Hoover's literary empire continues to expand in cinema. The film version of Regretting You, released in October 2025, stars Alison Brie and McKenna Grace. Furthermore, adaptations of two other Hoover bestsellers, Verity and Reminders of Him, are scheduled for release later this year.

The author's candid announcement has sparked an outpouring of support from her global fanbase, who have championed her work for years. As she faces her final day of radiotherapy, the focus remains on her health and recovery, even as the cinematic world of her creations continues to grow.
