Angie Best, the first wife of late football legend George Best, has given a heartfelt update on her battle with colon cancer. The 73-year-old health advocate posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday, revealing she has suffered significant hair loss due to chemotherapy.
In the video, Angie is seen wearing a baseball cap while out for a walk in Switzerland, where she is receiving treatment. She explained: 'I'm wearing my hat because I didn't the other day, and with the sun I came out in my face with the brown hormonal stuff... And you can see right through my hair because I've lost so much of it.'
Despite the struggle, Angie maintained a positive outlook, quoting a friend who said hair loss during cancer represents 'losing all the bad memories and thoughts' and that new hair symbolises 'new growth, new life, new health.' She added: 'I like that – that works for me!'
Angie's son Callum Best revealed her diagnosis in an emotional video on 8 January, stating that the cancer had spread to her liver. He noted that the diagnosis was delayed after initial alternative treatments and a misdiagnosis of Lyme disease. Callum set up a GoFundMe page to help fund his mother's specialist care.
Followers have rallied around Angie, with one commenting: 'Bless you Angie, out with the old, in with the new.' Another wrote: 'Yes, losing all the bad stuff, good way to look at it.' Callum responded to his mother's post with 'Love this' and a red heart emoji.
