Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared details of her latest surgery as she continues her breast cancer treatment. The 32-year-old dancer underwent a procedure to have a portacath fitted, a device used to administer chemotherapy.
In a social media post from her hospital bed, Dowden described the experience as 'not easy' and said she felt 'tender, bruised and sore'. However, she noted that the port will 'help massively over the next few weeks' and allow her to dance when she feels well enough.
Dowden, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May, had a mastectomy to remove a tumour. Last week, she revealed that further tumours were found during an MRI scan, meaning she requires chemotherapy and will not be able to compete in the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The dancer said she wants to share her chemotherapy journey to raise awareness of breast cancer and its symptoms. Her post was met with an outpouring of support from fellow Strictly stars, including James Jordan and Motsi Mabuse.
