Reality television star Elizabeth Castravet has shared the heartbreaking news that her father, Chuck Potthast, has passed away at age 64 following a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
A Devastating Loss for the 90 Day Fiancé Family
The 34-year-old Castravet, who gained fame through the TLC series 90 Day Fiancé, confirmed her father's passing in an emotional Instagram post on November 23. She described how the tragedy has left her family 'completely shattered' as they attempt to navigate life without their beloved patriarch.
'Two weeks ago, tragedy struck our family and it has left us completely shattered,' Castravet wrote alongside a family photograph. 'My sweet, loving, and caring dad went to heaven. We're trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward without him.'
The reality star concluded her tribute with a request for privacy during this 'extremely difficult time' for the grieving family.
Chuck Potthast's Brave Cancer Battle
Potthast had been publicly fighting glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of brain cancer. He first revealed his diagnosis on the 90 Day Diaries spinoff in 2022, allowing viewers to follow his health journey.
His condition recently faced additional complications. In September, Potthast underwent extensive surgery lasting over eight hours to address hernias resulting from previous cancer operations.
'My surgery was supposed to be about three to four hours long to fix hernias from my previous cancer operations that had developed,' he explained in a hospital bed video. 'Once they got in there, they see that my stomach wall had completely collapsed, so they had to fix that, which they did.'
Despite the challenges, Potthast maintained gratitude for the support he received, stating: 'I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It really helped me get through it.'
A Beloved Television Personality and Family Man
Chuck Potthast first entered the public eye in 2017 when his daughter Elizabeth joined 90 Day Fiancé alongside her partner Andrei Castravet. His appearances on the show revealed a supportive father who quickly became a fan favourite for his genuine nature and clear devotion to his family.
Fans have been sharing heartfelt condolences on Potthast's final Instagram post from October 3, which featured joyful images from a family boating trip in Florida.
One devoted viewer expressed: 'Rest in peace, Chuck. You were the best HUMAN being to ever hit the 90 Day franchise. My heart is breaking right now.'
Another fan remembered him as 'such a supportive and loving father', while others noted the significant impact he made despite viewers only seeing 'a snippet of who he was'.
The outpouring of support demonstrates how Potthast's authentic personality resonated with audiences, who now join the Castravet family in mourning his passing at the age of 64.
