Woman Loses 7st 8lbs After GP Referral Transforms Her Life

A woman from Worcestershire has shed 7st 8lbs after her GP referred her to a weight loss programme, transforming both her health and self-esteem. Janine Taylor, 58, from Bewdley, weighed over 22st at her heaviest and suffered from high blood pressure, neuropathy, insomnia and depression.

She described her eating as a 'cycle of self abuse', using comfort food to cope with childhood unhappiness and the stress of becoming a teenage mother. Her weight left her agoraphobic, often spending days in pyjamas and relying on her husband Mark to remind her to shower.

In 2021, a health scare prompted a GP referral to a local Slimming World group. Initially sceptical, she was surprised by the flexibility of the Food Optimising plan. She set a target of 12st 2lbs and reached her final goal of 8st 11lbs by December 2023.

Now weighing 8st 8lbs, Janine has a healthy BMI and normal blood pressure, requiring no medication. Her insomnia has vanished and she reports having the energy levels appropriate for her age. 'I finally feel like the woman I was meant to be,' she said.
