Health officials have issued an urgent recall notice for several popular fruit juice products sold in British supermarkets after potential bacterial contamination was discovered.
The alert affects various juices produced by Evergreen Orchard Farm, a well-known brand found in refrigerated sections nationwide. Consumers are being urged to check their refrigerators immediately and return any affected products to the point of purchase for a full refund.
Which Products Are Affected?
The recall specifically targets certain batches of the company's apple and mixed berry juices. The affected products have specific batch codes and best-before dates that shoppers need to verify.
Affected items include:
- Evergreen Orchard Farm Apple Juice (1L)
- Evergreen Orchard Farm Mixed Berry Blend (1L)
- Evergreen Orchard Farm Apple & Raspberry Juice (750ml)
Why These Products Are Being Recalled
Routine quality control testing detected the possible presence of harmful bacteria that could pose health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the contaminated batches, the company is taking precautionary measures to ensure consumer safety.
What Should Consumers Do?
Shoppers who have purchased any of the affected products should:
- Check the batch code and best-before date on the packaging
- Not consume the product if it matches the recalled batches
- Return it to the store where purchased for a full refund
- Contact their healthcare provider if they have already consumed the product and feel unwell
The Food Standards Agency has confirmed that major retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Waitrose have removed the affected batches from their shelves. However, some products may still be in consumer homes.
Evergreen Orchard Farm has apologised for any inconvenience caused and emphasised their commitment to product safety and quality. The company has launched an internal investigation to determine the source of the contamination.
