Two-Ingredient Air Fryer Bread: A Tastier Alternative to Sourdough
Two-Ingredient Air Fryer Bread: A Tastier Alternative to Sourdough

A food writer has discovered a remarkably simple bread recipe that requires only two ingredients and an air fryer, producing a loaf she claims is tastier than sourdough. The recipe, shared by Instagram user Emily Scott of 'What I Ate For Breakfast', uses just Greek yoghurt and self-raising flour, eliminating the need for yeast, kneading, or proving time.

Nicola Roy, writing for the Express, tested the recipe and was impressed by the results. The dough is made by mixing 200g of self-raising flour with a pinch of salt, then adding 200g of Greek yoghurt until a smooth dough forms. A splash of water can be added if the mixture is too dry. The dough is then placed in a lined air fryer basket, brushed with an egg wash (one egg beaten with a splash of milk), and sprinkled with sesame seeds or other toppings.

The bread is baked at 160°C for 40 minutes on the air fryer's bake setting. Roy found her loaf needed an additional 15 minutes, covered with foil to prevent burning. The finished loaf should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. The result is a bread with a crunchy crust and a chewy interior, similar to soda bread but with a texture that Roy describes as even better than sourdough.

Roy's family were amazed that the bread was made with just two ingredients. She notes that the loaf is particularly delicious when toasted and served with butter or a favourite spread. This easy recipe has inspired her to continue bread-making, proving that homemade bread need not be time-consuming or complicated.
