Two types of tuna products have been recalled in the United States due to potential listeria contamination, affecting over 12 lunch and food options. Reser's Fine Foods initiated the voluntary recall after discovering that breadcrumbs used in the tuna salad may have been contaminated with the bacteria.
The recall applies to products sold at Albertsons, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall, urging customers not to consume the affected items and to dispose of them immediately or return them for a full refund.
Listeria bacteria can cause listeriosis, an infection with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, chills, and muscle aches. The infection can be particularly dangerous for vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, potentially leading to serious or fatal outcomes, including miscarriages and stillbirths.
The FDA advised consumers to thoroughly clean and sanitise any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the recalled products to reduce cross-contamination risks.
