One food enthusiast named Lana Robinson has urged people to swap out the mayo for another, more nutritious alternative that will make the sandwich even creamier, while also boosting its protein content. Taking to TikTok, where she is known for sharing videos about health and nutrition, Lana has previously gone viral with her unique tuna salad recipe, which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times.
According to Lana, the only thing you need to do is swap out your usual mayonnaise for cottage cheese. "It might sound like it's a wild combination, but trust me, it's going to taste good," she said before sharing her secret recipe hack.
How to Make Creamy Tuna Sandwiches Without Mayonnaise
Firstly, Lana drains the water out of her can of tuna, explaining any type of tuna you prefer will work, before moving the bits of fish into a bowl and shredding them up into smaller pieces with a fork. She then goes on to add chopped onions and pickled jalapenos, as well as some salt and pepper, once again saying you can take your pick on what things you want to add into your tuna mixture.
Then it is time to prepare her secret ingredient, which is cottage cheese. But instead of adding it straight into the tuna, she puts it in a blender to mix it up to make it creamier. "It's so nice and creamy, and that's exactly what we want," she said as she showed off her own creamy cottage cheese mixture. She goes on to say: "I know it sounds wild. It's a wild combination, I know, but just trust me, it tastes so delicious."
Once the cottage cheese has been mixed up, you can simply stir it into the rest of the tuna mixture before adding it to your bread to create a delicious sandwich that is packed with protein. "And again, it doesn't get healthier than this," she added, referring to the healthy properties of cottage cheese.
