Major UK retailers including Marks & Spencer, Tesco, and Lidl have issued urgent recalls for several food products due to the risk of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned customers not to consume the affected items and to return them for a full refund.
Tesco and Lidl have recalled ham products sold in Northern Ireland after possible contamination with the bacteria. Listeriosis, caused by the bacteria, can lead to severe complications such as meningitis, particularly in vulnerable groups including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
Marks & Spencer has also recalled its Food Truffle Gouda due to the same risk, affecting customers in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The retailer confirmed no other products are impacted.
Separately, Minton & Donello Organic White Orzo has been recalled as it contains undeclared wheat (gluten), posing a risk to those with coeliac disease or wheat allergies. Meanwhile, Primark has recalled three models of pepper mills due to high lead levels, and John Lewis has recalled door stops and draught excluders potentially contaminated with asbestos.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) advised consumers to stop using the affected non-food items immediately and return them for a full refund.
