Mum's Pink Egg Yolk Sparks Health Warning

A mother from Hertfordshire was left shocked after cracking open an egg to find its yolk was entirely pink. Beena Sarangdhar, from Abbots Langley, was preparing breakfast for her children when she made the unusual discovery.

She immediately screamed, prompting her children to come running. After checking the remaining eggs from the same box, which appeared normal, she took a photo and shared it online, where users warned her not to eat it.

Research revealed the pink colour was caused by Pseudomonas bacteria, which can cause severe illness, including headaches, swelling, and even pneumonia. The eggs were in date and had been purchased from Asda in Watford.

Despite the scare, Ms Sarangdhar said the family still enjoyed egg on toast after discarding the affected egg. The US Department of Agriculture notes that while cloudy egg whites indicate freshness, pink or pearly whites signal spoilage.
