Jamie Oliver's Air Fryer Bread Revolution: 30-Minute Soda Bread Recipe

Jamie Oliver has unveiled a simple air fryer bread recipe that takes just 30 minutes to bake, offering a quick solution for homemade bread without yeast. The 'herby cheese soda bread' from his cookbook Easy Air Fryer features rosemary, melted cheese, and oats, and requires only 16 minutes of active preparation.

The recipe has been praised by home bakers, with one enthusiast describing it as 'the nicest bread I've ever eaten, never mind made', highlighting its speed and ease. The celebrity chef assures that the process is 'not too tricky', with no rising time needed, meaning the bread can be ready within an hour.

To make the bread, combine plain flour, wholemeal flour, oats, bicarbonate of soda, and sea salt in a large bowl. Finely chop rosemary leaves, mix most into the flour, and set aside the rest. Create a well, add an egg and buttermilk, and mix with a fork. Pat the dough into a ball using floured hands, then blend in cheese chunks. Shape into a 3cm deep disc, scatter oats and salt on top, and score a crisscross pattern with a knife.

Cook in the air fryer at 180°C for 20 minutes. Rub the reserved rosemary with olive oil, sprinkle over the bread, and bake for another 10 minutes until the crust is firm and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Serve warm, or store sliced-side down on a wooden board covered with a tea towel for a few days.
