Taste-Tested: The 15 Best Easter Eggs for 2026
Taste-Tested: The 15 Best Easter Eggs for 2026

For chocolate lovers, Easter is a highlight of the year. As soon as Valentine's chocolates are finished, attention turns to the best Easter eggs. Eggs have evolved from simple hollow shells to hand-finished designs, truffle-filled centres and unexpected flavour combinations. I even taste-tested Hotel Chocolat's £90 ostrich egg, weighing over a kilo of chocolate.

Not every egg is worth its price tag. With rising costs and reduced cocoa percentages, it pays to choose carefully, focusing on quality chocolate rather than packaging. To help narrow it down, I tasted 37 eggs from supermarkets, independent chocolatiers, luxury department stores and farmshops, enlisting other testers to find the 15 best for every taste and budget.

This showstopper pistachio and milk chocolate egg from M&S brings Easter eggs to new heights. It comes in a navy and lime green hat-box container, revealing an elegant egg with a subtly carved shell. The ultra thick shell feels expensive, made from 40% milk chocolate that is creamy and high quality, with a layer of smooth pistachio truffle inside. Rich and moreish, it is complemented by whole and chopped roasted pistachios. At £20, it offers good value at £4.12 per 100g.

For a budget-friendly option, the Nestle KitKat Chunky Easter egg costs less than £2 at most supermarkets. It includes one small bar and a milk chocolate egg just smaller than hand size. The chocolate is sweet, creamy and moreish, with a recyclable box that has space to write a message.

M&S also offers an 85% dark chocolate egg with a punchy aesthetic. It delivers intense chocolate without bitterness, with a silky texture and balanced richness, notes of deep ripe fruits and vibrant berries. Made with responsibly sourced Peruvian cocoa beans and Italian chocolate, it has a satisfying firmness and prism-effect decoration. While the inner plastic packaging feels unnecessary, the egg is a luxe gift-worthy option.
