Woman Fractures Shoulder Falling Into Recycling Bin

A 63-year-old woman has recounted the bizarre and painful moment she fractured her shoulder after tumbling into a recycling bin while attempting to clean it. The incident, which occurred on March 8, left Jane Green requiring hospital treatment and a sling for her injury.

Unfortunate Slip Leads to Serious Injury

Jane Green, a former secretary from Carshalton in Surrey, was mid-task, soaping down and washing the wheelie bin on her driveway, when the receptacle's wheels unexpectedly rolled out from underneath her. This caused the bin to crash to the ground, with Ms Green falling inside it.

A Sudden Give Way

"I'd soaked it in water and then it was a lovely day, and I thought I'd give it a final clean and that's when it happened," Ms Green described. "I put my head in and then the bin slid away and I fell inside it!" She had been reaching toward the bottom of the bin when it gave way, resulting in the angle of the fall causing a fracture to her shoulder.

"It was on its side, and I clambered out of it and knew that I'd done something quite dramatic," she added, noting that the injury remains very painful.

Emergency Response and Hospital Visit

After calling out to her husband for assistance, a bystander heard the commotion and came to her aid. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they had to cut Ms Green's jumper to access her injury. She was then transported to hospital, where an x-ray confirmed she had fractured the joint. Following treatment, she was sent home in a sling.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Ms Green stated emphatically, "I won't be going near that wheelie bin again!" This unusual accident serves as a cautionary tale about the potential hazards of everyday household chores.
