A leisurely soak in a hot tub in Lexington, Kentucky, turned into a life-or-death situation for two women on Tuesday, requiring a dramatic rescue by local emergency services.
The Lexington Fire Department responded to a distress call after the women were discovered unconscious and fully submerged in the water. First responders arrived to find one woman being pulled from the tub by a bystander while the other remained underwater.
A Race Against Time
Firefighters acted swiftly, immediately pulling the second woman to safety. Both victims were found to be unresponsive and not breathing, marking a critical medical emergency.
“Crews arrived to find one victim out of the hot tub and one victim still in the water,” a spokesperson for the Lexington Fire Department confirmed. “They were not breathing at the time of rescue.”
Miraculous Recovery at the Scene
Through the rapid application of advanced life support measures, first responders managed to revive both women at the scene. They were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment and evaluation.
While the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation, initial reports suggest a potential issue with the hot tub's chemicals or ventilation may have contributed to the loss of consciousness. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers that can be present in residential spas and hot tubs.
The condition of the two women has not been officially released, but authorities have confirmed they were alive upon arrival at the hospital.
