Scott Swift, the father of pop star Taylor Swift, will not face charges following an alleged altercation with a photographer in Sydney. The incident occurred in the early hours of February 27 after Taylor Swift's final Eras Tour show in Australia.
Police from the North Shore Police Command investigated the alleged assault, in which photographer Ben McDonald, 51, claimed Scott Swift punched him in the face. However, New South Wales Police confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that no further action would be taken.
According to a spokeswoman for Taylor Swift, the photographers were acting aggressively, pushing towards the singer and grabbing at security personnel. The statement also alleged that a female staff member was threatened with being thrown into the water. McDonald, chief executive of Matrix Media Group, dismissed this as 'utter rubbish', stating that the only female present was Taylor Swift.
Footage from the scene showed Scott Swift walking up the wharf while giving photographers the middle finger. McDonald said the alleged altercation was caught on camera and did not show the photographers acting aggressively. He expressed shock upon realising the alleged attacker was the pop star's father, noting that in 23 years of taking pictures, he had never experienced anything similar.
McDonald did not require medical attention but said he was left with 'very sore chops' on the left side of his face. Scott Swift has been a constant presence during his daughter's Eras Tour, previously praised for handing out sandwiches and VIP passes to fans.
