TOWIE Star Jordon Brook Details Severe Health Battle with Meningitis and Encephalitis

Reality television personality Jordon Brook has bravely shared the harrowing details of his recent health crisis, revealing he was diagnosed with a severe case of viral meningitis combined with encephalitis. The 31-year-old barber, known for his appearances on The Only Way Is Essex, appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain alongside his pregnant girlfriend Sophie Kasaei to discuss his ongoing recovery.

A Sudden and Severe Onset

Brook recounted how his symptoms began abruptly in early March. "On the 3rd of March, life was great. We're expecting our baby, and then by the 6th March I was struck with what I thought was the usual illness for myself," he explained. Initially presenting with extreme fever and headache, his condition rapidly deteriorated. "I felt like I had a hot corkscrew out of a fire and was screwing it into my temple. I was in agony," he described, leading to projectile vomiting.

Despite initial assessments by paramedics and hospital staff suggesting a migraine, Brook's persistence, driven by severe gut instinct, proved crucial. A subsequent GP visit resulted in an urgent hospital referral. "I've never trusted the saying, 'trust your gut' more. I knew something was wrong," he told hosts Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway.

Diagnosis and Devastating Complications

After extensive testing, including a lumbar puncture and CT scans, doctors confirmed a dual diagnosis of viral meningitis and encephalitis. Meningitis involves inflammation of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, while encephalitis is a serious inflammation of the brain tissue itself. Brook's case was described by his doctor as among the "worst possible" instances.

The diagnosis process was fraught with anxiety. "For four days, unfortunately the doctors had to tell us every worst case scenario... they said we can't rule out brain cancer," Brook emotionally recalled, highlighting the terrifying uncertainty faced by his family.

Long-Term Effects and Recovery Journey

The inflammation caused significant damage. "At the minute, I've got scar tissue in my brain, I've got a really bad right leg at the minute, I'm not in pain, but I can't walk properly," Brook disclosed. He emphasized that rehabilitation will be a lengthy process, but his motivation is clear: with his and Kasaei's baby boy due in approximately eight weeks, he stated, "I want to be a fit dad!"

His girlfriend, Sophie Kasaei, a Geordie Shore star, has been a pillar of support throughout the ordeal. In a recent Instagram post, she expressed profound relief at his discharge after a 22-day hospital stay, writing, "Watching you walk out of those hospital doors felt like getting my whole world back." She described the past weeks as "the hardest I've ever known," but praised Brook's resilience.

Gratitude and Public Awareness

In his own social media updates, Brook extended heartfelt thanks to his medical team at Basildon Hospital, his family, and Kasaei. "Thank you for saving my life!" he wrote, acknowledging the NHS staff's compassion. He also reflected on the mental toll, having experienced acute memory loss and seizures during his hospitalization.

By sharing his story, Brook aims to raise awareness about these serious neurological conditions. His experience underscores the importance of recognizing symptoms—which can differ from classic presentations—and advocating for oneself in medical situations. As he continues his recovery at home, the focus remains on healing and preparing for the arrival of his son, a journey he and his family are navigating together with renewed appreciation for life's fragility.
