Seventeen-year-old Kieran McDade, described by his heartbroken family as a "cheeky chappy" with a passion for cars and boxing, tragically collapsed at his home in Airdrie on May 29th. Despite desperate efforts to save him, the vibrant teenager could not be revived.
A Hidden Condition Revealed
Medical professionals later discovered Kieran suffered from an undiagnosed heart condition called Left Ventricular Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy. This rare disease creates a spongy texture in the heart muscle, making it unable to pump blood effectively.
"We were completely blindsided," the family shared. "Kieran was just a normal, healthy teenager one minute, and gone the next."
The Ultimate Gift
Amidst their overwhelming grief, Kieran's mother Kathleen and father John made a decision that would change countless lives: they chose to donate their son's organs.
"When the organ donation team approached us, we didn't hesitate," Kathleen explained. "We knew it's what Kieran would have wanted. He was always helping others."
