Wannabe Spider-Man's Escape Attempt Ends in Arrest on North Circular

A man attempting to flee from police on the A406 North Circular in Chingford scaled a 40-foot wall before falling onto an officer, leading to his arrest. The incident occurred at around 4:05pm on Wednesday, 12 March, when police attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be driven by a wanted individual.

The suspect, dressed in all black, sprinted down the left-hand lane of the dual-carriageway before attempting to climb a towering wall. He reached a height of approximately 20 feet before losing his grip and plummeting onto a police officer below, who suffered a leg injury.

Footage of the escape attempt, set to the song 'Life Is a Highway', was shared on social media, with users comparing the suspect to Marvel's Spider-Man. One viewer remarked, 'Telling my kids this was Spider-Man,' while another said, 'I just saw real life Spider-Man.'

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and remains in custody. The road was partially closed to traffic during the incident. A police spokesperson stated, 'The man in the car was believed to be wanted by police. The car failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised.'
