A 31-year-old mother of three from Perth, Australia, is fighting for her life in a Vietnamese hospital after what was meant to be a routine cosmetic surgery turned into a medical emergency.
Chloe Mowday underwent a rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty in Da Nang as part of a planned family holiday across Southeast Asia. However, shortly after returning to her hotel, she began to deteriorate, experiencing pain and unusual symptoms. Within hours, her organs began to shut down, and she stopped breathing.
According to her brother Rod, Chloe was rushed to hospital but died en route. Doctors managed to revive her, but she was placed in an induced coma and put on life support. The family believes toxic shock syndrome may be the cause, though no official diagnosis has been given.
The family is now raising funds for an air ambulance to bring Chloe back to Australia, where doctors believe she has a better chance of recovery. A GoFundMe page has raised over AUD$23,000 (£11,431), but the family needs an additional AUD$100,000 (£49,701) to cover the repatriation costs.
Rod described the ordeal as heartbreaking, especially with the language barrier complicating communication with medical staff. He remains hopeful, noting that Chloe is getting stronger each day as doctors treat an infection.
