Ruth Langsford has reportedly been caring for Eamonn Holmes in hospital while he recovers from his stroke. The GB News presenter, who split from Langsford in 2024 after 27 years together, has been in hospital since falling ill in April.
His girlfriend Katie Alexander, 45, reportedly moved out of his £1.3 million Surrey home earlier this month in an “incredibly sad” turn of events. Amid the reported fallout, Langsford is believed to have joined Holmes’ first wife, Gabrielle Holmes, with whom he has three children, at their “vulnerable” ex’s bedside.
Langsford and Gabrielle bond over concerns
Langsford, 66, is said to have put their bitter divorce battle behind her and bonded with Gabrielle over the “serious concerns” they share about Holmes’ wellbeing. “For a long time Eamonn and Ruth have just been completely and entirely at odds with one another,” a source told The Mail.
The insider went on: “They reached a point where they couldn’t even communicate directly. Things became very difficult. Ruth was really upset about it all. It’s astonishing that she’s managed to put this behind her. The anger appears to have thawed and has been replaced by genuine concern. The thought of Ruth and Gabrielle being on good terms was just as unlikely. Yet here they all are clubbing together and rallying around with the kids to protect Eamonn.”
The source added that Langsford and Gabrielle have “come through when Eamonn needed them most,” and said their support has eased some of the “pressure” off of Holmes’ children.
Court date and girlfriend's move
Holmes, 66, and Langsford are believed to be due in court again in November over the division of their joint £10 million fortune - but it is not known whether this will still go ahead, according to the outlet. Langsford and Gabrielle were reportedly put in touch by Holmes’ eldest children, Declan, 37, Rebecca, 35, and Niall, 33.
Langsford, who has a son Jack, 24, with Holmes, has been filled in on their concerns about their father’s health, the source claimed. The Standard has contacted Langsford and Holmes’ representative for comment.
The latest twist comes after reports that Holmes’ girlfriend Alexander has left his flat, which he has been renting since his split from Langsford. The mother-of-three and relationship counsellor lives in West Yorkshire but has been splitting her time between there and the Surrey flat, the Sun on Sunday reported. It is unclear where Holmes will live when he leaves hospital, according to the outlet.
A source told the paper: “Katie is still very much together with Eamonn and in love, but she’s moved out of the flat. It’s an incredibly sad situation — she loved it there and the time they spent together making it home. Katie has been Eamonn’s rock and lifeline since he fell ill. She’s willing him to get back to full fitness and get their lives back on track.”
Health struggles and recovery
His future at GB News has faced doubt in light of his health issues. Holmes had suffered a series of live mishaps on the breakfast show in the months before his stroke, including falling off his chair and reportedly falling asleep - although he denied this happened. He was hospitalised after he was reportedly found “slumped and out cold” at his home.
“He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better,” GB News said at the time. “His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return.”
Holmes shared a message from his hospital bed in April, posting a photo of his two granddaughters with a handmade “Get well soom[sic]” card for him. He captioned the post: “As my beautiful granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOON. Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength.”
The former This Morning presenter has endured numerous health problems in the past few years, and recently revealed dealing with illness and mobility issues have been “horrendous”. Holmes underwent a double hip replacement in 2016. Five years later, he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis. The presenter later had spinal surgery and his ongoing mobility issues mean he now often uses a walker or wheelchair.
