Peanut, the senior pit bull who won hearts worldwide by offering her stuffed toys to everyone at a Florida shelter, has finally been adopted. The 7-year-old dog had been overlooked for months before a viral video changed her fortunes.
The Humane Society of Broward County posted a video in July showing Peanut lovingly presenting her plush toys to visitors. Despite her affectionate nature, she remained at the shelter until a family with another dog came to meet her earlier this month.
Staff said Peanut “fell in love” with her new family, and the adoption was completed. In a Facebook post, they wrote: “Peanut’s story reminds us that the right family is always worth the wait.”
Peanut arrived at the shelter after being transferred from another facility. She quickly became known for her passion for stuffed toys, carrying them everywhere for comfort. Her collection included a hamburger, crocodile, lamb, and bone.
She would offer her toys to anyone approaching her kennel, even taking one on potty breaks. Despite her loving nature, she was repeatedly overlooked, which staff found puzzling. The viral video changed everything, and she left with a parting gift—one last toy from the shelter.
