Scottish Mother Endures Debilitating Pain from 36M Breasts
A mother from Scotland has revealed that her exceptionally large breasts cause crippling daily pain and prevent her from performing basic tasks, including picking up her infant daughter. Melissa Ashcroft, 30, from Blairgowrie, claims to have some of the largest breasts in Britain, measuring a size 36M, which she says weigh approximately two and a half stone.
Daily Struggles and Physical Limitations
Melissa describes her mornings as particularly arduous, with getting out of bed taking hours due to severe back pain. "I can't do anything until I've done my back stretches," she explained. The discomfort extends throughout her day, forcing breaks during household chores like cleaning until the pain subsides. Most heartbreakingly, she is unable to lift her eight-month-old daughter, which she finds emotionally devastating. "I want to be able to play with her and pick her up," Melissa said, highlighting the impact on her maternal role.
NHS Eligibility Barriers and Private Fundraising
Melissa initially sought a breast reduction through the NHS at age 20 but was advised by her GP to wait until after having children and breastfeeding. Following the birth of her two children, she was informed last year that her Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35 is too high for NHS surgery, requiring a reduction to 27 for eligibility. "I was told to get down to 11st. The anaesthetic won't work as well and I'm more at risk of blood clots and infections," she detailed.
However, Melissa finds weight loss challenging due to her condition. Proper exercise is virtually impossible, as going to the gym is embarrassing and running causes significant pain. She has been advised to consider weight loss injections but is hesitant after two relatives experienced serious adverse reactions, including gallstone removal and persistent nausea.
Consequently, Melissa has turned to crowdfunding, aiming to raise £8,000 for private breast reduction surgery. She describes the potential operation as "all my Christmases in one day" and a complete life changer that would allow her to engage fully with her children.
Hereditary Factors and Past Bullying
Melissa believes her large breasts are hereditary, as both her mother and grandmother also have substantial bust sizes. Ironically, she was tormented at school for being flat-chested before puberty, only to face further bullying afterward. "One minute I was getting bullied for having a flat chest, then I'd get bullied saying I had tea towels down my bra," she recalled, noting that the physical pain began immediately as her breasts developed.
She reminisced about a photo from age 18 when she was a size 6 or 8, where her figure appeared as if she had undergone cosmetic augmentation. The sheer weight of her breasts was demonstrated when she stepped on scales while her husband supported them, resulting in a two-and-a-half stone reduction in her measured weight.
Financial and Emotional Toll
The financial burden is also significant, with bras in her size costing £82 each. Living in constant pain and discomfort, Melissa emphasizes that the reduction surgery would not only alleviate physical suffering but also restore her ability to participate in everyday activities with her family. "It would be a complete life changer - I'd be able to play with my kids at the park and pick up my daughter," she affirmed, underscoring the profound impact on her quality of life.
