A mother from Blairgowrie, Scotland, is urgently seeking funds for a breast reduction after her 36M-sized breasts have left her in constant agony. Melissa Ashcroft, 30, says the weight of her breasts—estimated at two and a half stone—makes it impossible to pick up her eight-month-old daughter and takes her an hour to get out of bed each morning.
Melissa has suffered from severe back pain since puberty. At age 20, she requested a reduction but was told by her GP to wait until after having children. After giving birth to two children, she was informed earlier this year that her BMI of 35 is too high for NHS surgery, which requires a BMI of 27. She claims the pain prevents her from exercising to lose weight.
Unable to access NHS treatment, Melissa has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £8,000 for private surgery. She relies on painkillers that make her dizzy and says she feels like she is 70 years old. She has tried physiotherapy without success.
Melissa believes she has some of the largest breasts in Britain. She was bullied at school for being flat-chested before suddenly developing large breasts during puberty. She says the condition runs in her family. Doctors advised against weight loss jabs due to side effects experienced by relatives.
