A Glasgow mother-of-two has died suddenly after suffering a seizure while watching television at home with her family. Michelle Doyle, 52, passed away on January 16 after the seizure triggered a fatal stroke.
Her daughter, Toni Branks, 27, described the shock of losing her mother so unexpectedly. “That day my mum and dad went to Tesco, came home made dinner, watched TV then it just happened,” she said. “She had the seizure and my brother found her and they couldn't get her to wake up.”
Michelle was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but suffered another seizure in the ambulance, which caused a stroke and a brain bleed. She had previously experienced a mini-stroke in 2004 and her first stroke in 1999 while giving birth to her son. That initial stroke led to a blood clot in the brain.
Toni remembered her mother as a kind and caring person who always put her children first. “She was really kind to everybody. She said hi to everyone that she saw in the street or anywhere. She didn't have a bad bone in her body,” she said.
The family's seven-month-old puppy, Casper, has also struggled with the loss and is now on anxiety medication. Toni has set up a fundraiser to help cover funeral costs, with any surplus going to a stroke charity.
