Josie Gibson Reveals Liposuction and Wellness Regime for Lipoedema Transformation
Josie Gibson's Liposuction and Wellness Journey for Lipoedema

Josie Gibson Opens Up About Liposuction and Wellness Battle Against Lipoedema

Television personality Josie Gibson has candidly shared her journey to a slimmer physique, revealing she underwent liposuction surgery and adopted a rigorous wellness and fitness regime. The 41-year-old presenter, diagnosed with the chronic condition lipoedema, explained that despite consistent exercise, she found it impossible to eliminate the "lumps and excess weight" from her body.

Understanding Lipoedema and the Decision for Surgery

Lipoedema is a hereditary disorder characterised by an abnormal, symmetrical accumulation of adipose tissue, primarily in the legs, hips, buttocks, and occasionally the arms. It almost exclusively affects women and is distinct from general obesity. Josie decided to invest £7,000 in liposuction to initiate her transformation after becoming disheartened that her gym sessions were not yielding results on the scales.

"I felt held back by my condition," Josie admitted, noting that the surgery marked a turning point. Since then, she has immersed herself in a holistic approach combining fitness with wellness practices.

A Comprehensive Wellness and Fitness Routine

Josie's daily regimen includes:

  • Using a treadmill at home to achieve her step goals
  • Performing circuit training sessions
  • Taking collagen supplements and electrolytes
  • Undergoing lymphatic drainage treatments
  • Studying the lymphatic system's functions

Additionally, she incorporates NAD+ and glutathione injectables for anti-aging benefits, which also aid in post-operative healing.

Alternative Healing Methods and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

To promote recovery from her operations, Josie rented a hyperbaric chamber for three months. This therapy involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurised environment, increasing blood oxygen levels to accelerate tissue repair and reduce swelling. Typically used medically for conditions like decompression sickness, it has become part of her "alternative healing" approach.

In a recent Instagram video, Josie appeared in good spirits while using the chamber, showcasing her weight loss in a black bra and flashing a peace sign. She captioned the post: "Some women treat themselves to designer handbags and some women treat themselves to hyperbaric oxygen chamber #alternativehealing."

Josie has also constructed her own copper pyramid triangle, a tool popular in meditation and energy healing practices.

Strictly Come Dancing and Further Surgical Procedures

Josie's fitness commitment is set to intensify as reports indicate she has signed as the first celebrity contestant for this year's Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC, which previously missed out on casting her for I'm A Celebrity, believes her "down-to-earth charm" will resonate with viewers in the revamped show.

Before the competition, Josie underwent additional procedures, including brachioplasty, or an arm lift. This surgery removed 45% of her arm tissue, addressing lipoedema in her arms. Despite the extensive procedure, she reported feeling "really good" just one week later.

According to medical sources, brachioplasty typically lasts one to two hours under general anaesthetic, leaves a scar along the inner arm, and requires one to two weeks of recovery with restricted heavy lifting for four to six weeks.

Personal Reflections and Genetic Challenges

In video updates to her followers, Josie clarified her motivations: "I just felt gross whenever I was in like a vest top, and I just wanna go out in the summer and feel alright when I put a vest top on. Constantly fighting your genetics."

She emphasised that while the recovery has temporarily halted her busy lifestyle—even simple tasks like taking out bins have become challenging—she experiences no pain and is a fast healer. "I'm so glad I've had it done," she concluded, highlighting the positive impact on her physical and emotional wellbeing.

The NHS notes that lipoedema can significantly affect daily routines and mental health, underscoring the importance of Josie's openness about her condition and treatment journey.
