Josie Gibson has publicly disclosed her diagnosis of lipoedema, a chronic condition causing abnormal fat accumulation, after years of battling body image issues. The This Morning presenter, 40, shared the news in an Instagram video on Friday, showing her intense gym workout and admitting she is "constantly fighting my genetics."
In the video, Gibson is seen sprinting on a treadmill, lifting weights, and performing core exercises, hoping to inspire others. She captioned the post: "I was diagnosed with lipodema last year which I always knew anyway... So the fight is real as my body retains fat unlike a normal body should." She added that she had not shared the diagnosis earlier because she thought it was obvious.
According to the NHS, lipoedema is a chronic condition affecting fat and connective tissue, primarily in the legs, hips, bottom, and sometimes arms. It is more common in women and can significantly impact daily life, physical health, and emotional wellbeing.
Love Island star Shaughna Phillips, who also has lipoedema, previously spoke about her own diagnosis and spending £25,000 on surgeries, including liposuction on her thighs and calves. However, she now regrets the expense and focuses on fitness instead, after a scan revealed dangerous visceral fat around her organs.
