Gogglebox star Sue Sheehan has disclosed her diagnosis of Bell's Palsy during Friday's episode of the Channel 4 show. The 67-year-old, who appears alongside her husband Steve, revealed the condition after being absent from recent episodes.
Bell's Palsy is a neurological disorder causing temporary weakness or paralysis on one side of the face. Symptoms can include a drooping eyelid or mouth, dry mouth, loss of taste, and dry or watering eyes. The NHS states most people recover within six months, though it can take longer.
On the show, Sue said: 'I mean I've actually learned to do a couple of things since this Bell's Palsy... one is to speak through the side of my mouth and the other one is chewing, chewing takes a long time.' Steve joked about chewing her food, but Sue declined, prompting Steve to remark: 'You haven't lost the sharp side of your tongue have you?'
Viewers expressed support on social media, with one writing: 'All the best to Sue and big love for bringing Bell's Palsy to the fore.' Another said: 'Sue and Steve wishing you a speedy recovery... keep being you.'
Former X Factor star Tulisa Contostavlos has also spoken about her own battle with Bell's Palsy, which she manages with emergency steroids.
