Gogglebox Australia Star Rushed to Hospital for Emergency Surgery
Isabelle Silbery, a former star of Gogglebox Australia, was rushed into emergency surgery this week after suffering through forty-eight hours of intense stomach pain. The forty-one-year-old shared the alarming news on her Instagram account on Friday, revealing that what she initially believed was a simple tummy bug turned out to be a burst ovarian cyst and an infected appendix.
From Suspected Bug to Surgical Emergency
In a candid post from her hospital bed, Silbery uploaded an image giving a thumbs-up to show she was recovering well following the urgent medical procedure. She emphasised that her intention was not to seek sympathy but rather to raise awareness about listening to one's body.
'With what I thought was a tummy bug, I pushed through 48hrs of pain until I couldn't take it anymore,' Isabelle wrote in the caption. 'I listened to my body and got checked even though a part of me would've been embarrassed if I was sent home with gastro.'
She continued, 'I can be a cry-baby with pain but I knew in my gut something wasn't right. Turns out a large ovarian cyst had burst and infected my appendix. Surgery done and recovering.' Silbery expressed immense gratitude for the medical staff, stating, 'Thank god for amazing nurses, a job I could never do yet admire so highly.'
Support from Fellow Gogglebox Stars
Isabelle shared additional photos from her hospital visit, including one showing her bandaged stomach post-surgery and another taken as she was wheeled in for an MRI scan. Fellow Gogglebox personalities quickly flocked to the comments to offer their support and well-wishes.
- Angie Kent wrote, 'Sending you love and healing vibes sisters x.'
- Adam Densten said, 'Glad to hear you're okay!'
- Matty Fahd commented, 'Glad you're on the way up.'
- Lee and Keith added, 'Sending hugs and so glad you're feeling better.'
- Kara Ryan, wife of Beau Ryan, shared a heartfelt message: 'Sending lots of love gorgeous. Think we are way overdue for a catch up!!!'
A History of Medical Emergencies
This incident marks the second time Isabelle Silbery has made headlines for a medical emergency in recent months. In January 2025, she was rushed to hospital after suffering a spinal injury during a vacation in Fiji. The former reality TV star, who left Gogglebox in 2024, fractured her spine in a horse-riding accident while staying at the remote Turtle Island.
Describing the ordeal on Instagram, she recounted, 'Turns out being on a remote island is bloody scary when you have a horse-riding accident, are in immense pain and don't know how serious things are.' Silbery detailed a dramatic evacuation, noting that a medical helicopter was only available during daylight hours, forcing local Fijians to carry her on a stretcher for two kilometres up a hill in the dark, onto a boat, and back to her hut.
'These people were absolute angels,' she wrote, praising their assistance and the support of her husband, Alex Richards. Scans later confirmed she had fractured her spine, with Silbery stressing the severity: 'One inch in either direction and my life could've looked very different today.'
Through both experiences, Isabelle Silbery's story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking medical attention when in doubt, rather than ignoring symptoms out of embarrassment or hesitation.
