Gemma Collins has revealed that her mother Joan, 70, has been hospitalised with pneumonia for the second time in six months. The TOWIE star shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of her mother in a hospital bed and thanking the medical staff for their care.
In her post, Collins wrote: 'Sending my mummy so much love she has caught Pneumonia but she is doing well thank you to all the wonderful nurses and doctors for looking after her. Still looking glam mummy.' She added that she had struggled to sleep due to worry, saying: 'Was lovely to have a laugh with her today no day is ever promised couldn't sleep last night at all with worry.'
Joan was previously hospitalised with pneumonia in December but made a quick recovery. However, the infection has returned, prompting Gemma to express her concern and ask fans for prayers. She also shared a video of her mother shopping, expressing hope that they would soon be able to do so again.
Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs usually caused by an infection, making it harder for oxygen to pass into the bloodstream. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, high temperature, chest pain, and fatigue. The NHS advises calling 999 if symptoms worsen.
This latest health scare comes after Gemma revealed last year that her mother had been 'really struggling' and that she had been told Joan could die during a previous hospital emergency. The star has urged fans not to take any day for granted.
