The director of northern Gaza's Kamal Adwan Hospital has issued a desperate warning about the catastrophic state of medical services as supplies dwindle to critical levels under Israel's ongoing blockade.
In an exclusive interview, Dr Hossam Abu Safiya revealed that his hospital and medical facilities across Gaza are facing complete collapse, with life-saving equipment becoming unusable due to fuel shortages and essential medicines running out.
Medical System on Brink of Collapse
"The health and medical system in the Gaza Strip has reached a stage of complete collapse," Dr Abu Safiya stated grimly. "We are facing a real test of life and death for hundreds of patients."
The hospital director described how critical medical equipment, including ventilators and incubators for newborn babies, could cease functioning at any moment as fuel reserves approach exhaustion.
Patients' Lives Hang in Balance
Among the most vulnerable are kidney dialysis patients and those requiring intensive care. Dr Abu Safiya emphasised that without immediate intervention, countless lives will be lost to preventable causes.
"The occupation bears full responsibility for the lives of the sick and wounded in the Gaza Strip, whose lives are threatened to be lost at any moment," he declared, holding Israeli authorities accountable for the deteriorating situation.
