DFA Dairy Brands, LLC has recalled 324 cartons of Friendly's Cookies & Cream ice cream after a packaging error was discovered. The recall, reported by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday, affects 48 fluid-ounce cartons that were mistakenly packaged in Vanilla Bean cartons with a Cookies & Cream lid.
The Vanilla Bean flavour does not list soy or wheat as ingredients, which could pose a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction to individuals with sensitivities or allergies to these allergens. The affected cartons have a best-by date of November 26, 2025, and were sold in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Customers who purchased the recalled ice cream can return the carton to the place of purchase for a full refund. This recall follows another ice cream recall last month, when Rich Ice Cream Co. recalled over 110,000 cases of various ice cream bars due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The Rich Ice Cream recall, classified as Class II by the FDA, affected products sold in 23 US states and the Bahamas. Consumers were urged not to eat the bars and to dispose of them immediately. Listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the US, killing approximately 260 people annually.
