Victim's Critical Condition and Medical Treatment
The victim has been identified by his family as Joel, a 35-year-old father from Hesperia in San Bernardino County. Following the incident, Joel was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition with third-degree burns covering nearly his entire body.
According to a GoFundMe campaign organized by Joel's sister-in-law Jenny, the father has undergone multiple life-saving procedures over recent weeks to remove damaged skin tissue from his arms, legs, chest, and back. Medical complications have necessitated additional emergency interventions, including a procedure to relieve dangerous fluid buildup in his abdomen.
Family's Emotional Appeal and Recovery Challenges
"Our family is completely heartbroken," reads the family's fundraising appeal. "Joel is a father of three, and his children need him. Watching someone you love go through something this devastating is something you can never be prepared for."
The family emphasizes that Joel faces an exceptionally difficult and prolonged recovery journey requiring ongoing surgical interventions, extensive skin grafting procedures, specialized wound care management, and long-term medical support. The fundraising initiative aims to cover expenses for physical therapy, specialized burn treatments, rehabilitation assistance, medications, and other essential care components.
