Eamonn Holmes Pledges to Recover After Suffering a Stroke

GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has publicly vowed to do his utmost to recover swiftly after experiencing a stroke. The 66-year-old Northern Irish broadcasting icon was hospitalised following the medical incident, with GB News confirming in an official statement last week that he is responding positively to treatment.

Heartfelt Message from Holmes on Social Media

In a touching Instagram post, Holmes shared a photograph of his granddaughters, one of whom was holding a handmade sign with a charmingly misspelt "get well soon" message. The veteran broadcaster wrote: "As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well – I will do my best to get well soom (the spelling error his granddaughter had made)." He added, "Thank you for all of your many, many good wishes, they give me strength."

Colleagues and Network Rally Around Holmes

Holmes, who co-presents GB News Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday alongside Ellie Costello, is currently being temporarily replaced by presenter Alex Armstrong while he focuses on his recuperation. The network issued a statement expressing collective support: "Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return."

Armstrong, stepping in during this difficult period, conveyed his well-wishes: "Thinking of you Eamonn Holmes. Such a shock to all of us. You’re sorely missed. Get better soon." Additional support poured in from other GB News personalities, including sports presenter Paul Coyte, a close friend of Holmes, who wished him a "speedy recovery," and fellow presenter Stephen Dixon, who previously worked with Holmes at Sky News, hoping for "a swift return to good health."

Family Requests Privacy During Recovery

In a separate statement released on Sunday, Holmes' son Declan addressed the public, saying: "I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time." He continued, "For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him. We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family."

A Storied Career in Broadcasting

Eamonn Holmes first captured public attention as a presenter on ITV’s GMTV from 1993 to 2005. He subsequently moved to Sky News’s Sunrise, where he remained from 2005 to 2016. From 2006 to 2021, he co-presented ITV’s This Morning with his then-wife Ruth Langsford, becoming a household name. Holmes joined GB News in 2022, further cementing his legacy in British media. His contributions to broadcasting were formally recognised in the 2018 New Year Honours, when he was appointed an Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire (OBE).
