This Morning star Dr Philippa Kaye has shared an emotional update on her health after undergoing major surgery last month. The 46-year-old GP and author had the procedure due to a 'cancer risk' and has now revealed it was 'successful' but that she is experiencing 'ongoing bowel and other issues'.
In a candid Instagram post, Dr Kaye wrote: 'As ever...cancer and post cancer is complicated. I know so many of you (and me) want everything to be done. But the truth is more complicated. The surgery was successful but there are ongoing bowel and other issues. Now we have to work out what might still improve and what I might be left with forever and how to manage that. I am so tired of it all.'
Friends and colleagues offered support, with Vanessa Feltz commenting: 'Sending you all the love, hugs and prayers and kisses. Can I do anything/bring anything or visit my darling friend?' This Morning beauty presenter Nadine Baggott added: 'Sending love'.
Dr Kaye, a mother of three, was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer at age 39 and underwent six months of chemotherapy combined with a 12-hour surgical procedure to remove remaining malignant tissue. In October 2020, she announced live on This Morning that she was cancer-free, telling Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield: 'For the first time in nearly 18 months I am able to say that I am cancer free.' Despite the all-clear, she requires yearly monitoring.
Last month, Dr Kaye reflected on the emotional impact of her hysterectomy, writing: 'Thoughts I have about my hysterectomy that do and don't make sense. Intellectually I understand: It was causing problems and pain... Emotionally though... it was part of me, it housed my babies, cancer forced me to make this decision... Am I somehow less of a woman without my womb and ovaries? I know this is not true.'
