Peter Andre has shared an update after his wife, Dr Emily Andre, was diagnosed with shingles. The 53-year-old singer praised his wife for speaking out about the condition, which he described as 'very painful' for her, but noted she is now 'through the worst' of it.
Emily, 36, who works as an NHS doctor and has presented on programmes like Lorraine, revealed her diagnosis last week. In a video posted to Instagram, she explained that shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox, and can reactivate later in life. She said she noticed pain and odd sensations under her arm before a rash appeared on her back.
Writing in his new! magazine column, Peter said: 'It was great Emily spoke out about her shingles diagnosis - she wants to help others and make them understand it from a medical point-of-view. I was really surprised when she told me but she didn’t make a fuss at all, even though it was very painful for her.'
Emily, who has over 750,000 followers on social media, said she wanted to raise awareness because shingles is often associated with older people, but can occur at any age. She advised her followers to refer to the NHS website for more information and to seek medical advice if unsure.
