Dr Karan Rajan, a popular medical educator on TikTok with 4.9 million followers, has warned women against using intimate hygiene products, stating they are unnecessary and potentially harmful.
In a recent video, Dr Rajan explained that such products can disrupt the natural bacterial balance, increasing the risk of yeast infections, vaginosis, and other conditions. He noted that the vagina is self-cleaning, with a natural pH of around 4.5, which helps limit harmful bacteria growth.
Dr Rajan criticised the marketing of these products, saying they perpetuate the myth that women's bodies are dirty. He highlighted the double standard, pointing out that similar products for men, such as those for scrotal odour, are not marketed.
The doctor's comments have received widespread praise online, with followers agreeing that women should not feel pressured into using unnecessary products. One follower commented: 'I've never thought about it before, but yes I've never seen the equivalent for men.'
