A 38-year-old man is fighting for his life after drinking a liquid nitrogen cocktail at a corporate Christmas party in Moscow. The incident occurred at the Igra Stolov 'Game of Tables' cooking studio, where a celebrity chef was performing a theatrical 'cryo-show'. Witnesses claim guests were not warned of the dangers, and the chef allegedly urged the man to drink the cocktail immediately.
The victim, identified as Sergey, collapsed clutching his stomach in agony. He was rushed to intensive care, where surgeons performed emergency surgery to repair a torn stomach. His condition remains serious, though he is conscious and recovering.
Medics determined that the liquid nitrogen caused rapid gas expansion inside his body, rupturing his stomach. Liquid nitrogen boils violently at room temperature; if ingested before fully evaporating, it can cause severe internal injuries or death. The extreme cold can also freeze internal tissues.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in Oklahoma, where a mother of three died after drinking a margarita allegedly contaminated with industrial cleaner at a Valentine's Day date in 2023. She suffered severe throat and esophageal damage and passed away in October 2024.
