A woman who dismissed her sudden breast growth as hormonal changes has urged others to seek medical advice after being diagnosed with a brain cyst. Lauren Ayres, 28, from Luton, Hertfordshire, saw her chest expand from a 30E to a 32G in just three weeks, skipping multiple cup sizes.
The customer communications specialist initially put the changes down to stress and hormone fluctuations, especially as she also suffered from daily headaches, irregular menstrual cycles and extreme tiredness. 'I didn't really think much of it,' she said. 'It's not something I thought was serious enough to go to the doctors.'
A routine blood test in July revealed that her prolactin levels were four times higher than normal. An MRI scan later showed a 14cm by 12cm cyst on her pituitary gland, which is responsible for hormone production. 'It was quite a shock when it came back,' Lauren said. 'I didn't even think it would genuinely be a brain cyst.'
Doctors have told Lauren the cyst is likely benign, but she is awaiting further blood tests, an eye examination and an endocrinology appointment. She shared her experience on TikTok with the caption: 'Not the diagnosis I expected this year but here we are.'
Lauren is relieved the cyst was found early and encourages others to seek medical help if they notice unusual changes. 'I would never have thought it would turn out to be a brain cyst,' she said. 'Get checked out if something doesn't feel right.'
