A desperate mother has revealed her nine-year-old son was forced to survive on nothing but Shreddies cereal for an entire week after his school failed to provide safe meals due to his severe allergies.
The boy, who suffers from multiple food intolerances, including dairy and gluten, was left without suitable meal options at his primary school in the UK. His mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the situation as "heartbreaking" and "unacceptable."
A Week of Hunger and Frustration
"Every day, I packed him a box of Shreddies because it was the only thing he could safely eat," the mother explained. "The school knew about his allergies but still couldn’t accommodate him."
She claims she repeatedly raised concerns with the school, but no action was taken. "It’s not just about hunger—it’s about inclusion and safeguarding children with medical conditions," she added.
Growing Calls for Better Allergy Policies
This case highlights a wider issue in UK schools, where children with severe allergies often face inadequate support. Charities and campaigners have long called for stricter policies to ensure safe meal provisions for all students.
"No child should go hungry because of their allergies," said a spokesperson for Allergy UK. "Schools must take this seriously and work with parents to find solutions."
The boy’s mother is now pushing for change, urging schools to implement better allergy management plans. "This can’t keep happening," she said. "Our children deserve better."
