BBC Breakfast star Nina Warhurst has given viewers a deeply personal health update after a frightening ordeal that forced her to seek urgent medical attention. The beloved business presenter shared that she was recently struck by sudden and severe 'stabbing' chest pains, an experience she described as 'properly terrifying'.
The 44-year-old broadcaster took to her Instagram Stories to explain her absence and detail the alarming incident to her concerned followers. She revealed the pain was so intense she feared she was having a heart attack, prompting an immediate trip to the doctors for a series of tests.
A Frightening Ordeal
'Just wanted to explain my radio silence for the past week – I ended up in the docs and then hospital after some properly terrifying stabbing chest pains which left me unable to pick up my baby or take a deep breath,' Warhurst shared with her audience.
She underwent numerous examinations as medical professionals worked to rule out serious cardiac conditions. The presenter praised the NHS staff who cared for her during this anxious time, acknowledging the immense worry that comes with any potential heart-related symptoms.
The Diagnosis: Costochondritis
After thorough investigation, doctors diagnosed Warhurst with costochondritis – inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to the breastbone. While extremely painful, the condition is typically not dangerous and often resolves with anti-inflammatory medication and rest.
'Turns out it's costochondritis – inflammation of the cartilage around the ribs – and while it's bloody painful, it's not dangerous,' she explained, adding that she was now on a course of anti-inflammatories.
A Message to Others
Despite the relief of her diagnosis, Warhurst emphasised the importance of taking chest pains seriously. 'If you have chest pains, please get them checked out,' she urged her followers. 'The docs and hospital staff were amazing and took it very seriously (as they should) until they'd ruled out the scary stuff.'
The mother-of-three's candid health update has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike, many praising her for using her platform to raise awareness about listening to one's body and seeking medical attention when needed.
Warhurst signed off her update by noting she was 'on the mend', much to the relief of her dedicated BBC Breakfast viewership who look forward to her return to the famous red sofa.
