Former Loose Women presenter Andrea McLean has revealed she was just 24 hours from death after being rushed to hospital with severe pneumonia and sepsis in December 2024. The 55-year-old, who left the show in 2020, was found collapsed at home by her husband Nick Feeney.
Speaking to The Mirror, McLean said: 'I didn't realise how severe my illness was at the time. But the doctors had told my husband Nick that had I not got to hospital when I did, had we waited another 24 hours to call for help, I may not be here now.' She added that the experience 'changed my life forever'.
McLean collapsed with flu and lay on the bathroom floor for an hour before being found. She was taken to hospital by ambulance, where scans revealed severe pneumonia, acute kidney injury and sepsis. She spent four days in hospital and required daily antibiotic drips for a week after discharge.
The presenter, who has had Covid three times and long Covid, said she caught flu from her daughter and her 'body just gave up'. She is still recovering, experiencing 'funny turns' and struggling with mild exercise. McLean thanked her husband for his support, saying his 'life stopped' during her illness.
