Tracey Mcavoy, who weighed 22.5 stone and once required an extendable seatbelt on a flight, has lost six stone using the Simple weight loss app. She says the app has "changed (her) life completely" and helped her become "healthier" and "happier".
From 22.5 stone to a new lifestyle
Tracey, who lives on the edge of the Peak District in England, attributed her weight gain to overeating and a lack of physical activity. She described her former habits candidly: "I was a pig, I was lazy, I was addicted to food. I'd go to bed and then get up at 11 o'clock at night and have four bags of crisps, or make myself some cheese on toast."
She started her weight loss journey on January 4 and, despite thinking she was "ready for giving up", has since lost six stone. She says she still has a "long way to go" but is enjoying a "new way of eating (and) a new way of living".
The Simple app and its features
The Simple app is a clinically proven weight loss tool that has helped users lose over 18 million pounds. Users take a quiz to receive a personalised plan, which includes food logging via typing, voice or photo, an intermittent fasting tracker, a NutriScanner to understand meal nutrition, and daily workout plans covering yoga, pilates, HIIT, walking and Tai Chi.
Users can currently get 80% off the app's weight loss plans using the code REACH. Once subscribed, there's a two-for-one deal where users can share their Simple premium with someone of their choice at no added cost.
Health improvements and AI support
Before losing weight, Tracey said she "couldn't walk, had a chronically bad back, and was taking about 10 tablets a day for diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol". Now she says: "I feel like I've had a brain transplant. My whole life is different. I'm healthier, I'm happier, I look better, I feel better."
She also noted that people say she looks younger, her skin is better, and her hair is healthier. She credited the app's AI-powered coach, Avo, which provides 24/7 wellness and fitness advice, and she "kept asking Avo for different recipes" and healthier substitutes. The app also includes Blinky, an emotional support feature described as a furry friend who cheers when users log meals, sulks when they don't, and spirals when ignored.
User reviews and alternatives
The Simple app has a 4.3 out of five-star rating on Trustpilot, making it 'Excellent'. One user wrote: "Simple has made it easy to stay on track for losing weight, slimming down my shape, and becoming healthier. The plan is created upon individual lifestyles, is easy to follow, and promotes healthy eating." Another said: "This has been so helpful with my fasting, and I love my AI coach. Definitely worth the money."
Some users were less enthusiastic, with one noting: "I'm learning some things about nutrition, and I am allowing myself to be accountable to some degree. However, my very much varied schedule does not permit me to follow much of the advice."
Alternatives include Lifesum, which offers meal and snack tracking with nutritional and calorie data, with a free base model and premium options from £7.49 per month to around £50 per year. MyFitnessPal, with over 280 million members, provides food tracking and calorie, macro and micronutrient information, with a free base model and premium plans starting at £79.99 per year or £19.99 per month.
Tracey says she is no longer "addicted to food anymore" and would advise anyone to try Simple. The brand notes that real users are featured and have been compensated for their honest testimonials, and results may vary.
