Lorette Jonathon, 53, was found dead in the bath of her home in the village of Cwmbach, near Aberdare, on October 21 last year, an inquest has found.
Inquest details
An inquest into her death at Pontypridd Coroner's Court heard that Mrs Jonathon had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and that the diagnosis was causing her pain and anxiety.
Area Coroner Patricia Morgan said she had been prescribed morphine to help manage her pain and had also reverted to alcohol use. The inquest was told the alcohol use was "likely an attempt to alleviate her anxiety and discomfort."
Cause of death
Mrs Jonathon, who was a housewife, was found dead in her bathtub at home after having consumed alcohol and taken morphine. Ms Morgan said the drugs and alcohol likely had a sedating effect on her, resulting in her drowning whilst in the bath.
The medical cause of death was given as drowning in the setting of ethanol and morphine drug use. The coroner concluded that Mrs Jonathon's death was an accident.
