Rob Lowe's son John Owen Lowe, 30, has shared an emotional excerpt from Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope Is the Thing With Feathers" following the death of his 13-year-old cousin Fiona, who died by suicide.
John, the youngest son of the West Wing actor, posted the lines on social media: "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all."
He continued: "And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore must be the storm that could abash the little bird that kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chillest land, and on the strangest sea; yet, never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me."
Tributes from Fiona's sister and mother
The post follows an emotional tribute from Fiona's older sister Mabel, 17, who made a special vow to her sibling. Writing on Instagram, Mabel said: "I love you so much Fiona. I wish your short time here was easier and I hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, I hope you knew just how much."
Mabel included photographs of the pair playing as children, including on a beach and dancing together. The reel showcased happy family memories, including a picnic. Their mother, Kim, commented: "Oh Mabel. I love you so much."
Family statement and support
Fiona was the middle daughter of Hollywood director Chad Lowe and his wife Kim Painter, and the niece of Rob Lowe. She died in a hospital on Tuesday, September 29, according to County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner records viewed by Page Six. Her death was announced by her family in a public statement.
The family said: "We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance. She was adored by her sisters, and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives."
They described their loss as "devastating" and asked for "prayers and privacy at this time." The statement ended: "If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988."
A source told Naughty But Nice how Rob dropped everything to support his brother after the news. The source said: "Chad is his little brother, and the second he heard, Hollywood stopped mattering. There was nowhere else Rob was going to be except by Chad's side." Another source added: "Rob knows there are no words that can fix this. He can't take away Chad's grief. What he can do is be present, protect his brother and make absolutely certain he never has to face this alone. Right now, he's simply a big brother helping hold his family together."
