Danielle Fishel, best known for her role as Topanga Matthews on the sitcom Boy Meets World, has announced she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
The 43-year-old actress shared the news on Monday's episode of her podcast Pod Meets World, explaining she has ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a form of breast cancer. She described it as “very, very, very early” and technically stage zero, with a micro-invasion.
Fishel said she is scheduled for surgery to remove the cancer and will undergo follow-up treatment. She decided to go public to encourage others to attend regular mammogram appointments and detect cancer early if possible.
“If you have to find out that you have cancer, find out when it’s at stage zero,” she advised listeners. Fishel first appeared on Boy Meets World at age 12 and later reprised her role in the spin-off Girl Meets World.
