Perez Hilton's family has confirmed the celebrity blogger is in a serious but stable condition and will undergo surgery after suffering significant blood loss during a self-harming TikTok livestream.
Family statement
The 48-year-old remains hospitalized in Florida after police entered his home when he filmed himself brandishing a knife in a 30-minute live stream. His relatives describe his treatment as a long process.
A statement on Hilton's website reads: "Perez's condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday."
Limited communication
The statement adds: "His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements."
Earlier statements revealed Hilton's children were inside his home minutes before the livestream. "Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez's children, niece and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma."
Police response
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office confirmed deputies attended a scene of a man livestreaming acts of self-harm, but did not name Hilton. Deputies said the man was alone in the house at the time.
Hilton, born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, rose to fame in the 2000s as a celebrity gossip blogger. His pseudonym referenced Paris Hilton. His caustic style and practice of outing closeted gay celebrities drew criticism. His blog's popularity declined, and he moved into reality TV, appearing on shows including Celebrity Rap Superstar and Celebrity Big Brother.
Hilton has three children, a son and two daughters, born via surrogate.
