Paris Jackson has revealed she attempted suicide multiple times, with her first attempt at age 15, and detailed her struggles with drug addiction that began at 14. In a candid interview on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, the daughter of Michael Jackson, now 28, said she was 'so upset' when she woke up after one attempt because it had not worked.
Chronic loneliness and drug use
Jackson attributed her problems to her 'unconventional childhood' and chronic loneliness. She said she started using cannabis at 14, describing it as a 'gateway drug,' and by 19 she was using narcotics. 'It wasn't an escape, it just made me feel different,' she said.
She recalled losing her voice for three months due to smoking drugs with foil, fearing she would never sing again. She also said she blew a hole through her nose, which whistles, and a doctor warned her that reconstructive surgeries are limited, saying, 'if you're not done, don't bother.' She admitted thinking, 'I'm not done.'
Recovery and sobriety
Jackson said she checked into rehab after a 'complete meltdown' and is now five years sober. She continues to struggle with her father's death in 2009 but believes nothing could have 'gotten me there until I was ready.'
